Flevoland, a province you have to see!

Flevoland is the youngest province in Holland and is located in the centre of Holland, at the location of the former Zuiderzee in 1986. Although this province is relatively young, there is plenty to do in Flevoland!

Every year, from the 14th of April till the 6th of May, the ‘Bolletjestocht’ is held in Flevoland. This is signposted route from more than 80 kilometers long and takes you among more than 1000 hectares of tulips. This route is marked by National Geographic in 2009 as one of the world’s finest driving routes and is definitely worth a visit if you are in Holland in this period.

Another thing you should do while you are in Flevoland is visiting Bataviastad. This outlet centre is open 365 days in a year and has more than a 100 shops where you can find products with 30-70% discount!  During your shopping session you can also take a break by relaxing in one of the nice restaurants. If you like more action, you can also visit attraction park Walibi. This attraction park is open from the 7th of April and has a lot of roller coasters. Furthermore, Walibi also organizes some events during the year. For example, you can dance the night away during the Summer Nights on the 25th of July and the 1st, 8th and 15th of August. 

At the 5th of may, everywhere in Holland there are festivals to celebrate our freedom, including in Lelystad, the capital of Flevoland. We couldn’t find any specific local delicacies of Flevoland, but don’t worry! You can always try some Dutch delicacies everywhere in Holland like:

-       Drop

-       Dutch pancakes

-       Stroopwafels (cookies filled with syrup)

-       Speculaas ( a cookie)

-       Frikandellen & Kroketten (fried snacks)
